Researching Rideshare

Rideshare Drivers United has sought out key partnerships with principled, progressive non-profit organizations to educate the public about the true harms of Prop 22 and the under-regulated gig-economy. Since 2020, we have partnered drivers with researchers in collecting valuable data on the real working conditions drivers face while working for Lyft and Uber.

Driver's Healthcare

Most California Rideshare Drivers do not receive healthcare benefits despite promises from Prop 22. Research was conducted with a survey of over 500 Rideshare Drivers in the summer of 2021, in partnership with Policylink.

Driver's Pay

Drivers are receiving poverty wages. After calculating for gas, maintenance, healthcare, and other expenses, drivers only make $6.20 per hour. Research was conducted by collecting wage and time data from over 50 drivers across California in the fall and winter of 2021 in partnership with the National Equity Atlas.

Unfair Deactivation

Unfair deactivations are a constant threat to all drivers, who can be subject to terrible economic consequences from the sudden loss of their job without just cause. Over 40% drivers have experience either temporary or permanent deactivation from the platform, with many deactivation being racially motivated. Over 800 current and former California Drivers participated in the survey in 2022 in Partnership with Advancing Justice.
